Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu embarked on its expansion journey introducing various modern medical facilities, with construction of the new building commencing in 2021. The expansion transformed the facility from a 70-bed acute care hospital into a 123-bed secondary-to-tertiary hospital, serving a population base of nearly 600,000 people and reaching up to 6.6 million across Kenya’s Lake Region.

The new 4-storey block includes:

  • General treatment
  • X-ray
  • Mammography
  • ICU, MHDU, Wards, and NHDU
  • Plant rooms for the generator, switch room, and boiler rooms
  • Radiology
  • CT scan
  • Catlab and operation theatres
  • Paediatrics and postpartum rooms

The hospital holds Level 5 SafeCare Health Standards certification, offering care across more than 30 clinical specialties and subspecialties.

CED provided civil and structural engineering services for the project. The result is a modern 4-storey hospital block engineered to support advanced clinical, diagnostic, surgical, and critical care facilities serving Kenya’s Lake Region.
