Project Summary
Lions SightFirst Eye Hospital (LSEH) was founded in July 1997 by local Lions Club members, located on Kapatgat Road, Loresho, in Nairobi’s Westlands District. The hospital has grown into one of East and Central Africa’s leading eye care institutions, running East and Central Africa’s first eye bank and providing free surgery to over 5,000 patients a year across a 250-kilometre outreach radius. Its general outpatient service includes eight consulting rooms and a large waiting area accommodating over 200 patients, alongside two main theatres, two minor theatres, and separate male and female general wards holding 66 patients.
The new development included the following blocks:
- Corneal Eye Bank Block
- Water tank
- Entrance canopy
- Outpatient department and optical centre
- Bio digesters
- Record store blocks
CED provided civil and structural engineering services for the project. The result is a series of purpose-built blocks engineered to support specialised eye care, tissue banking, and outpatient services for one of East Africa’s leading charitable eye hospitals.
